While listening to traffic, the pedestrian who is blind or visually impaired is also trying to determine the traffic control at the intersection by listening for the stop and go pattern of traffic at a signalized intersection. On hearing that, they may search the sidewalk area for a pole and pushbutton. However, if it’s not close to the crosswalk location, they may not find it. Some individuals may not search for pushbutton if they don’t know there’s one there.
