Some intersections may have a lane called a channelized turn lane or slip lane. This is a dedicated lane for turning traffic that “cuts the corner” to allow for greater amounts of turning vehicles to proceed through the intersection at higher speeds. In most cases, this turn lane will direct drivers to yield to oncoming traffic or it will be a “free flowing” turn, which means the turning vehicles have a dedicated lane on the road they’re turning onto and therefore don’t need to stop or yield.
