If the installation design does not call for audible beaconing, the overhead speaker should be pointed straight down. This directs the sound at the pedestrian waiting location and prevents the sound from being easily from locations to which it does not apply.

If the installation design does call for audible beaconing, the overhead speaker should be pointed toward the centerline of the street, in the middle of the crosswalk.
